When is the application deadline?

To be considered for Winter/Spring 2027 programs, please submit your application by November 30th, 2026. Applications received after this date will automatically be considered for Summer and Fall 2027 programs.

Can I choose which institution to attend?

We have partnered with institutions throughout New York City. You must attend one of our partner schools or approved institution.

What do you look for in the essays?

Your essays should be written from your heart, in your own voice (No AI, please). They should be thoughtfully written — be sure to answer each question to the best of your ability. The essays do not need to be grammatically perfect; we want to learn more about you!

What types of documents do I need to submit?

You will need to submit photo identification, employment authorization, birth certificate of your youngest child, proof of residency, proof of income, and proof of high school diploma or equivalency. You are also welcome to upload your resume (optional). Please see Eligibility & Application page for more information.Please note: Some training programs require documentation verifying your current address. A learner's permit or other government-issued ID may be accepted by some schools, but many require an additional document, such as a utility bill, bank statement, lease, or official government mail. Applicants must be legally authorized to study and work in the United States, either currently or by the time their training program is completed. Immigration documentation will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to determine eligibility based on the applicant's current status, work authorization, and the requirements of the selected training program.

MfM will review your application. You may be invited for an interview and asked to provide references.

I have been selected for an interview. How should I prepare?

You should prepare for your interview as you would a job interview. We will ask questions to learn more about you.

Who should I ask to be my reference?

Your reference should be someone who is familiar with your character. Mentors, co-workers, and teachers are great choices.

No, you may only receive the grant one time.

How will the grant/funds be paid?

All funds will be paid directly to the institution. We will not provide funds to individuals.

What are the terms and conditions of the program?

If you are selected for the grant/program, you will be required to meet for periodic check-ins, share completion documentation (course and exam/certification), and share outcomes within 6 months of graduation.
